What is a LED Driver/Convertor? How does it work?

According to the different packaging methods of LED chips, there are various kinds of input specification, which the most appropriate voltage and current are required to be identified to keep normal operation of LED functioning.

When LED chips are applied onto fixtures, the amount of LED adopted and the connection method used, whether in series or in parallel, can be designed based on the space and atmosphere needs. This will thus affect the appropriate driver parameter of corresponding lights. The proper input specification of driver is required to function the LED lights properly, or else the lamp would not be able to be lit up, or even worse, the lamp would be damaged. Mains electricity is with high voltage and alternating current, which had to be reduced before adopting by LED lamps.

Altering mains electricity to suitable specification for LED lamp use with no harm is the first and foremost role LED driver, or to say LED power, is playing in the lighting system.

Based on the spatial design and the ambience necessitated, the housing, parameter, and certification of the LED driver differs from one to another.

One critical point to lay emphasis on is whether the driver is an independent driver or a built-in driver. An independent driver can be installed on the outside of the fixture, whereas a built-in driver must be installed within the fixture to avoid any possible danger when use.
